17 Black Self Portrait Photographers to Follow on Instagram
Self portraiture is a very specific niche, not to be confused with “selfies”, which are often just snapshots taken in the mirror or using the front-facing camera of your cellphone to capture yourself at the “perfect angle”. Self portraits are a different kind of beast that, while we make it look easy, usually requires skill and knowledge outside of just knowing how to use your camera.
There are actually whole communities out there of self portrait artists - the problem is that it is rather hard to find black faces in them or being featured on them.
So, I’ve compiled a list, albeit short, of Black self portrait photographers that you should be following on instagram, so you can fill your feed and be inspired by this melanin goodness.
